Influencer marketing can be an extremely lucrative way to sell books for indie authors. Especially If you find a targeted #booktoker or #bookstagrammer for your launch or promotion. Finding the right niche of people interested in your book can make all the difference. Since 2004, NPD Bookscan has been tracking U.S. book sales and estimates that in 2021 the American market sold 825 million books. It's the most prolific year yet. Bookscan attribute this, in part, to the collective influence of #booktokers, the TikTok book influencers passionately posting about their favourite books. At the time of writing this book, the hashtag #booktok had been tagged on 35.8 million videos. The #booktok hashtag has become so influential it is now monitored by both physical and online book retailers for what books that they should be merchandising.

How to Reach Influencers to Promote Your Self- Published Book
Great Resource for Authors – Especially Indie Authors
I’m a multi-published author and I’ve worked with 4 different publishers over the last 15 years. After extensive work with 3 very different publishers, I launched my own small publishing company for my own books and to help my clients publish their books. If you don’t know it now, you will soon learn that you will need to learn to promote your new book. I was fortunate to have over 15 years of promotional experience before my first book was contracted for sale. But, that experience was all off the internet. So, I had to learn how to promote ON THE INTERNET. So what to do? Of course, I wrote a book about it. That was many years ago and so much has changed.
I thoroughly enjoy How to Reach Influencers and learned a lot. I stay up-to-date on many elements of social media and I still learned many tips that I’m putting into action on my accounts. I also found a long list of resources that I am going to research once this review is posted. Personally, I haven’t focused on Instagram like I know I need to for my radio show and book promotion, and I have some new ideas the book sparked.
The interviews were very informative and shared tidbits that can be used. I enjoyed the comments about blog tours. Years ago, I was one of the first authors to offer virtual tours, to do calls explaining how they worked and working with a couple friends to come up with unique strategies to make the strategies more tailored for niche tours. So, those sections brought back lots of memories.
I’ve promoted hundred of books online for well over a decade and kept up with what to do, where to do it and how to do it – for my books and for clients and I’d recommend reading this book to learn more about how to reach out to influencers and how to get your book(s) in front of potential readers.

This was a good read, chock full of good info about this whole world of influencer marketing. There was plenty of practical advice, and even many actual sources to go to. Step-by-step instructions were found on several topics, which would really be helpful to beginners. The part I liked the best was the section that contained the interviews with actual influencers on various platforms. The only part I did not like was the end of the book, where the formatting suddenly changed, there were several blank pages in the middle of the chapter, and it appears that somehow a draft version got included in the final version of this book. Again, however, this was at the very end. Hopefully the author will read this review and take a new fresh look at the last chapter of this book and correct it for future readers. Otherwise, great book!

How to Reach Influencers Offers many Marketing Insights into our Changing Options. The world of Influencer Marketing has changed dramatically even over the past few years. Personally, as an influencer, I have seen a considerable shift in brand collaboration requests moving away from blog posts and feature videos to short reels and stories via Instagram and Tiktok. This book shares insights that authors can use to tap into current social media trends and options in marketing their work. Beginning authors are not likely to jump into expensive Booktok marketing with a powerful influencer launching their book to millions of followers. Authors can certainly learn about the different social media platforms and work to find their footing and their fan clubs within those spaces. This book offers a look at the many ways social media influencers are used today to market books and written works--and gives authors a lot of ideas to note and research further as they grow their brand and writing.

Would I Recommend How to Reach Influencers from The Book Marketer? We can all learn something new and adapt that knowledge to help us grow and perform better. This book introduces readers to a wealth of information, written in an organized, easy-to-understand fashion, that educates them on the current marketing roles of social media influences in our world. The book doesn't offer writers a blueprint to success with social media influencers--but it provides them the basics to learn more about influencers and some tips, insights, and pitfalls in using influencers to bolster writing success. I recommend this book to those marketing written work and seeking to stay on top of changes in the marketing environment. How to Reach Influencers is a great book to help you learn and discover new options and transition your marketing efforts into the current phase of the game.

The book goes into detail on why influencers are important, how the market has shifted to favor influencers, etc. A lot of tools (mostly paid!) are talked about to help you on your influencer journey. Unfortunately, I think it would be unlikely for a small author like me to get my money's worth out of most of them (many seem directed more toward publishers). Maybe in a shared arrangement with other small authors?
I do wish it had spent more time on how to delineate "real" influencers from fake ones, as I ran into a lot of fake ones on Instagram.

It was trending toward five stars despite the above until I got to the end. For the price, it's still probably worth it, but the the formatting got weird (like a bad copy/paste?). Then there is a Conclusion chapter, then there are several chapters after that, and a lot of random blank pages.

I started reading 'How To' books by experts over ten years ago when I started self-publishing. Most of their advice was common sense. Purchase a good cover, write a succinct & enticing blurb, & get the book scrupulously edited, etcetera. Now, if you're a new writer with just one book, the cost of that set of basics is punitive. 95% of writers will never recoup the outlay.

Fast forward to 2022, and although those basics are glossed over quickly in this 'How To' offering, the self-published writer has more hurdles to cross. You need to find the influencer who will help you increase your sales to undreamed of levels. I've no doubt that writers can sell books using Instagram and Tik Tok. There have been successful campaigns by writers on Twitter and Facebook in the decade I've been writing. But they cost more money than a vast percentage of writers can afford.

The early 'How To' books and this latest one have something in common.

The people making money are the experts who convince the self-published writer they have all the answers.

By all means read this book, it won't take long, but try to calculate how long you would have to spend away from your writing to do the necessary research, and establish the right contacts, and then decide whether you want to go down a path where essentially you're paying for reviews.

You'll spend enough money on the covers, blurbs, edits, promos & website. Enough time researching browsing categories, keywords, and designing stuff for social media, that you wonder when you'll get the chance to write the next book.
Perhaps it's a long-shot to concentrate on writing good stories, and letting the reader decide, but you're not lining someone else's pockets on the way.
