About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish.
She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below.
Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all.
Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world.

I moved straight onto the second book in this series after reading Book One and I can gladly say that I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, learning about what happens to Maria when she reaches dry land after the shipwreck which separated her from her love, William.
Demelza Carlton has set this series in the 1930's, and she has captured the feeling of 1930's depression era Fremantle with great aplomb. As a resident of Perth, Western Australia and a visitor to the historical City of Fremantle, I could visualize the area as it was during the 1930's from Ms. Carlton's beautifully descriptive prose. It was apparent that she has done a great deal of research before putting pen to paper, and that dedication to historical accuracy has created a book which is a delight to read.
We follow Maria's path as she comes to terms with losing touch with William after the events at the end of Book 1. While she doesn't know whether William is alive or dead, she can't bring herself to move forward without knowing the truth. The story follows Maria's life as she learns to speak English (with the help of a 'special' book) and creates strong and lasting friendships with the people she works with, along with Merry, whom we met in the first book and whom Maria lives with.
The finale of the book came as a huge surprise, and I'm happily reading the third book in the series now. Highly recommended and these books would be perfect to read while sitting around the pool, enjoying a drink and enjoying the summer holidays.

It's short and an easy read, but I really enjoyed it. If you read and enjoyed the first book in the series, I would recommend this one. (I had a hard time putting it down.) It continues Maria's story, though I would have liked to learn a bit more. As I said, it was a rather short book. Again, I felt the need to buy the next book in the series to find out what happens next.

Maria learns and grows with her Aunt Merry, but still pines for William. A very sensual/sexual book, but if you're prepared for it, it's very good.

So tired but I can't sleep for the need to know what happens next. Demelza is an amazing author. I'm so happy I had the chance to teach her daughter so I had the chance to discover her books. I can't get enough of them and have read this one in record time. I am left hungry for more. I must start the next book now!

I give this four stars. Although I love the story about Maria, this was spread over three books and this middle book somehow seemed a bit of a filler ... the reader knew the story wouldn't be resolved until going on to the third and final book and that somehow made this book just a bit less exciting.

Part Two of a mermaids life on two legs. Finding her lost love but sort of losing him again leads to part three. I like that she adapts well to the challenges life on hard ground brings.

I am enjoying the series. So far this is book 2 . If you like myth and sirens/Mermaids this book is for you. It is a lot more than the little mermaid. Not for children. Adult content.

The story continues with Maria beginning a new life after being smuggled ashore in Freemantle by a widow. However Maria still wonders at times what happened to William her love. In this follow up you will get romance and adventure. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars William Dead or Alive!!!
Reviewed in Australia on October 2, 2014
I couldn’t read the first couple of pages quick enough to find out if William was safe or killed!
Merry D’Angelo was a kind soul to take in a girl she did not know, give her a home and a last name so no one found out the truth about Maria and she did appreciate everything that Merry did for her.
As a non-swimmer, not through want of trying, I am jealous the way Maria just jumps into the ocean does what she needs to and comes out again. This book explained questions I previously had about Marie and I must admit I like her very much. In Oceans Justice I my feelings for Maria were jumbled, one minute I liked her the next I did not. Now I am starting to understand why she prefers to live with humans. Her friendship over the years with Tony is marred by her determination to find William and find out finally if he still loves her or not. At last, she finds William only to be repeatedly rejected, why is he so better towards her. Will she follow William to get revenge, will her love for William stop her from killing him.
Book 3 Ocean Triumphs has the answers we need.

4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating!
Reviewed in Australia on August 17, 2021
This was a lovely sequel. The last book left us off with a bit of a cliffhanger but I am so glad we get to read what happens after the devastation of the shipwreck.

Maria now has a new life with a kind widow who takes her in. She enjoys this new life and many years have passed so she is now well-informed with the societal norms that is expected of her. However despite all this, she is still wondering what happened to her lost love, William.

This was a beautiful tale of lost-love, re-building and seeking answers. There are also plenty of moments of suspense when Maria's old life as a siren comes back to try and take her away. Its intensifying as the story goes on so I am really looking forward to finishing this series!

Received an e-ARC copy from the author herself for an honest review and this does not affect my rating or review of the book thank you!

Maria's journey continues as she learns to live among humans with her adopted aunt, Merry.

I was captivated by this one as much as the first prequel where we see William fall in love with his mysterious Maria. I literally could not put this down and dove immediately into the third prequel story right after this.

Ms. Carlton does not disappoint. Her descriptions and characters are to be envied. I particularly enjoyed Maria in the fish market.

An excellent book continuing Maria's story. How she finds hope and friendship with people who help her to decide her future.
