Purchase options and add-ons
Logan Seagate hadn't bargained on making friends with a secretive, rich and mysterious family— or being caught up in a pirate’s shipwreck mystery and trapped in a burning building—when he'd trespassed onto the private beach near Cawsand by abseiling down a cliff that first morning of school half-term break. But his "be alone" plans are interrupted when he meets Meeka, an adventurous eleven year old girl, and her secretive, mysterious parents.
After spending a thrilling day full of adventure and Ferraris, he finally realizes the identity of his mysterious new friends—but what's better, with the help of their friendship, it looks like that elusive sense of belonging is finally within his grasp.
Until his older foster brother shatters his hopes for his new friendship.
But it's not just his happiness that is at stake as a mystery unfolds around them. His suspicions of a shipwreck pirates' smuggling ring turn into reality, putting Meeka and his life plus the lives of his foster family at risk. Caught by the ruthless pirates they are all tied up and held captive.
A bigger shock is still to come, one that will hit Logan the hardest. But there is no time to deal with it because before he knows it, he and Meeka are trapped in a burning building. With the flames getting higher, how can they possibly escape, rescue the people that matter the most to him and stop the crooks escaping?
Acclaimed by Kids Book Review as a 'wild ride packed with action, adventure and mystery', this first book in the Crime Stopper Kids Mysteries is also loved for the themes of family, friendship, fun, and belonging that it evokes through characters who are as intriguing and fascinating as the mystery they solve.

Editorial Reviews
Review
Logan doesn't have the kind of family most kids have. He lives with his best friend Nate and his parents, plus two more foster kids adopted by Nate's mum and dad. Logan loves living with Nate's family, but he's never really felt like he belongs. When he decides to go rock climbing on private property, looking for some fun and maybe time to reflect on why his own father didn't contact him on his birthday, Logan kicks off an adventure he never, ever expected.
The private property Logan goes to explore is a holiday home, and while Logan expected it to be vacant, it absolutely isn't. He meets a family there -- a family unlike any he has met before. But despite the fact he trespassed, Logan fits right in, and he has a great time at the beachside holiday home... until he starts to notice unusual things. Like the boat that watches them from sea, an old coin in the basement and people acting strangely. Something is going on, and Logan is determined to figure it out.
This is a middle grade novel for kids who love lots of action and a mystery to solve. But it's more than that. I love that the story dives deep into family life and the ups and downs of being a kid, particularly because it's from a boy's perspective, which isn't something that is often explored in children's literature. This is a story about family and the variance in families. It's easy to assume every family is the same. It's easy to assume every family lives in the same kind of house and has the same kind of life. But the truth is every family is different, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Filled with action, adventure, mystery and heart, The Trespasser's Unexpected Adventure, The Mystery of the Shipwreck Pirates Gold has something for every young reader. And as the first in a series, it's filled with characters kids can fall in love with and follow from book to book." ~Shaye Wardrop, Kids Book Review.
The Trespasser's Unexpected Adventure by Karen Cossey is a well-written modern day mystery adventure story. Logan is the thirteen-year-old foster child of Steve and Abby. He meets Meeka and her rich and famous parents when they stay at a nearby clifftop lodge. When the two families get to know each other, Meeka enjoys sampling "normal" life for a few days. But then Logan, his older foster brothers and sister, and Meeka stumble on a smuggling operation and get caught up in a dramatic and dangerous adventure that includes secret tunnels, rock falls, being abducted and threatened, escape, bike racing, and finding their way out of a fire.
I particularly like children's books that do more than just tell a good, exciting story. The main characters in The Trespasser's Unexpected Adventure have all experienced some kind of trauma or difficulty in their young lives and I like the way they are drawn together in friendship and the way these friendships help them move forward in their lives. The past experiences of Cossey's characters reflect reality for many children then, and this does give the book an added element that is special and important and I really liked this.
I loved Meeka's desire to be an ordinary child, away from the fame and riches, and her family's sense of fun and love for each other. Her life contrasts with the pasts of Logan and the other foster children, but there is a similarity in that they all need the security that comes with normality and family love. There is plenty of exciting mystery, adventure and escape from danger as well as the fun of rock climbing, bike racing and family camps on the beach. An enjoyable action and crime story that older children or younger teens are sure to enjoy. ~Hilary Hawkes, Readers' Favorite

How will he survive? And how will he save his friends?
About the Author
She left academic life, headed away from her pet cow and towards the city and after many exciting "life experiences" (something she was told she needed to have to be a writer) she settled in a seaside town with great weather and even better fish and chips.
Having helped prepare her two children to leave home by teaching them their alphabet and the effects of baking soda on vinegar, she now spends her days working with her husband in their family business, writing stories and going gardening with her pet cat to keep her company and tell her when it's time to come inside again.
Her books have received ReadersFavorite.com Five Stara wards, but the moment that truly made Karen proud was when her teacher friend announced at her School Assembly that she had bought two of Karen's books (that she had read in class), for the school library and her class all started clapping and cheering. Awards are nice, but kids are better...because that's why Karen writes—for the kids.

About the author

Karen has been writing stories ever since her primary teacher told her she had a great imagination when she explained that her math homework had been eaten by her pet cow. Stories were everywhere she looked, especially as she grew up in between the pages of books.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2018This is a great book. It is different from some other middle grade adventure books as the characters are as strong as the plot. The characters are fresh and well developed - led by the one-of-a-kind quirky 11 year old girl Meeka and her friend, brave, troubled 13 year old Logan. The conversations between Meeka, Logan and their friends make you feel like you're standing in the room. I love the affection and warmth between them. The plot is exciting and fast paced with modern smugglers. I like that some of the teenagers follow martial arts and can stand up for themselves with the villains. The story is listed as the first of a series. I'm hungry to read more adventures by this writer and more of these great characters.
If you enjoyed this story you might like Kidnap Island: A Jonny Wild Adventure (Jonny Wild Adventures Book 1) (also indicated as one of series but so far a one-off).

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2015What a feel good, great read! It has a bit of everything; family, friendship, action, suspense, laugh-out-loud wit, fight scenes, racing cars and more. The story is believable and heart-warming. The relationships are set up well, which helps to support the plausibility of the characters' actions during the crime part of the story. There was just enough action and suspense to keep it really interesting for boys, but I loved reading about the interaction between the young people and them and their parents. It's a great example of what family should be like and it highlights that sometimes family has little to do with blood, but everything to do with commitment, acceptance, and love. The 'significant others' in this book are excellent role models. It should be a funny and exciting read for 9-13 year olds.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2020The sample I read, very well written and it grabs your interest from the first page.
Got it for my 12 year old boy... Too old for children's stories and not yet interested in romance.
I plan to buy him the second book by the same author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed
I read it with my 8 year old son. The storry line is messy and we hardly keep track of events and many characters. Too many unnecessary and boring details that distracts from main story line

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible and easy reading story
You don't have to be a native english speaker, you just need to know some basics and you find yourself capable of reading this touching story - doesn't mean it's only some children's book.It doesn't matter if you're young or old - this is just amazing.
Sympathic characters, realistic but still not-happening-every-day story, good laughs - everything a good book needs.
Looking forward to read more like this.
